Rotary Dragon Boat Race

July 2009

Dragon Boat Racing is noted as a ‘team sport’; a very social sport and great fun too. So, when the Rotary Clubs of Huddersfield and Wakefield invited us to take part in their debut Dragon Boat Challenge, the Wilkes Group thought it a great opportunity to raise funds for charity and to provide a very memorable day for employees and their families into the bargain. It was a superb event and a great day out. There was lots of support from families and friends, a lot of laughter along the way and the emphasis was on fun, excitement, and great optimism of winning the race! Although ‘Wilkes Water Warriors’ may not have returned home with the shiny silver cup, the event proved to be hugely successful in terms of team-building, motivation and camaraderie. But, most importantly, we are proud to announce that our team raised an amazing amount of £1,182.10 for two very worthy charities, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Photon Rose (Ex Ray of Light), a local children’s charity based in Ossett All of the feedback we have had so far has been hugely positive and already there is talk of a ‘return with vengeance’ in July 2010.
