Wilkes Group Make a Splash For Local Charity!

Upon receiving our invite from The Huddersfield and Wakefield Rotary Clubs, Wilkes Group were highly delighted to enter their team, Wilkes Water Warriors, for the third year running, in The Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge recently held at Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield.

Scientists have discovered that the key to the best tasting brew is to let it sit for six minutes before drinking. Not only does it avoid scolding but by then it has cooled to 60C, the optimum temperature to let the flavours flood out. But leave it until after 17 minutes and 30 seconds and the tea will be past its best.

Thirsty 4 Water have been a long-term supporter of FRANK Water through donating a percentage of every water cooler sold or rented to fund our projects. They have now launched a new Schools package which incorporates not only a state of the art filtered and chilled watercooler, but also offers the opportunity to provide refillable sports bottles, information and curriculum material and educational support including a Community Cohesion Project. Thirsty 4 Water will tailor each package to the individual schools requirements, giving the opportunity for flexibility in choosing what elements are required while supporting FRANK Water’s projects in providing access to clean water in India.

Thank you so much to Wilkes Vending for their generous donations over the course of 2009. The total for the year comes to an amazing £520, which will go towards funding a new Clean Water Plant in Andhra Pradesh, India. The Clean Water Plant will provide healthy, drinking water for up to 7,000 people. It will mean that women and children don't need to walk for hours to collect water from distant bore-holes. And it will mean that people are healthier and don't miss important days at school or work. On behalf of all these people, Thank You."

Dragon Boat Racing is noted as a ‘team sport’; a very social sport and great fun too. So, when the Rotary Clubs of Huddersfield and Wakefield invited us to take part in their debut Dragon Boat Challenge, the Wilkes Group thought it a great opportunity to raise funds for charity and to provide a very memorable day for employees and their families into the bargain.
